Foundation of a new pond or water change means filling up with clean, fresh water. You can
\nuse tap water or well water but both of them have to be conditioned and adjusted to
\nbiotope needs, all harmful substances such as chloride, heavy metals must be removed, all
\nbasic parameters have to be stabilized (pH, temporary harness), vaccinated with bacterial
\nflora and protected from algae growth. Self-cleaning mechanisms and ecological processes
\ncan only function properly in sufficiently hard and buffered pond water (pH 7.5 – 8.5,
\ntemporary hardness over 5\u00b0). Fluctuation of pH value may cause reduction of variety of
\nspecies and also mass growth of some kinds of algae. PH fluctuation may also have negative
\ninfluence on zooplankton – an enemy of algae. These are main factors upsetting proper
\nfunctionality of garden reservoirs.<\/p>\n

\nyour pond.<\/p>\n

In case your pond isn’t supplied with filtration system it is necessary to create large
\nregeneration zone – shallow water zone with numerous plants which have filtrating features.
\nAdditionally installation of circulating pump or airing pump is highly recommended.<\/p>\n

STEP 1 – WATER CONDITIONING AND STABILIZATION\u00a0OF KEY\u00a0PARAMETERS OF WATER<\/strong><\/h2>\n

You can use TeichStarter<\/span> to condition water (tap water, rain water or well water) up to the level which complies with biotope of pond water; to bond harmful substances, chloride or heavy metals which can have negative influence on pond life, also to increase temporary hardness (pH value doesn\u2019t fluctuate).<\/p>\n

Hardness (pH value doesn’t fluctuate). Improper parameters of water lead to increase of
\nammonia and nitrite toxicity. This is very hazardous for all water species and finally can lead
\nto disturbances in food chain, various fish diseases (thrush), mass growth of algae, sludge
\nincrease and finally degradation of water environment. This agent creates perfect life
\nconditions for all pond occupants and proper climate for lively shinny fishes.<\/p>\n

STEP 2 – PHOSPHATES, AMMONIA AND HEAVY METAL ABSORBTION<\/strong><\/h2>\n

It is necessary to use agents which absorb phosphates, ammonia and heavy metals to avoid
\nalgae growth.
\nTap water contains 6.5 mg\/L of phosphate which protects pipes and instruments from
\ncorrosion and lime settling. Well water may contain even up to 4 times more phosphates.
\nWater biologically free from germs gives filamentous algae and green algae maximum
\nadvantage during absorbing nutritious substances (food, pollens, sludge, etc).
\nIn case the concentration of phosphate (PO43) is greater than 0.035mg\/L mass growth of
\nalgae can increase. 1 kg of algae can arise from 0,1g of phosphates!!!<\/p>\n

Purified zeolite or ZeoSpeed<\/span> are recommended agents which bond phosphates.<\/p>\n

ZeoSpeed<\/span> is a multi-ply, renewable and highly efficient zeolite. Bonds ammonia and
\nphosphates; may be used in filter or directly in pond water. Each zeolite has limited capacity
\nand usually works for approx. 6-8 weeks. Then needs to be changed or regenerated with
\nZeoPower<\/span>.<\/p>\n

PhosLock AlgenStopp<\/span> is strongest bonding agent in the world. Continuously reduces
\nphosphate volume (main algae nutrition) to the level below 0,035mg\/L thus reduces mass
\nalgae growth. It has to be applied on a regular basis every 6 weeks.<\/p>\n

STEP 3 – CREATION OF BACTERIAL FLORA<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In both cases when filtration system is installed (filter, UVC lamp and filtrating pump) or is
\nnot installed, biological life of the pond may be made alive by using of bacterial starters.
\nThose agents help in creation of bacterial flora which is essential in biological cleaning
\nprocess. Cultures of bacteria which are taking part in a self cleaning process can appear in a
\npond after 6-8 weeks. Bacteria starter shortens this period to 1 week.<\/p>\n

Pond without filtrating system<\/strong><\/h2>\n

In case of ponds not equipped in filtrating system it is highly recommended to use Dr.
\nRoth’s\u00aeTeichklar<\/span>. This agent contains wide variety of microorganisms which enrich biological
\nlife in the pond. This increases biological capacity of decomposition of organic substances
\npolluting pond water and slime. This agent also reduces algae blooming and prevents
\nputrefaction and reduces creation of harmful gases. Should be applied regularly every 4
\nweeks. BioBooster\u00ae<\/span> should also be applied at spring start up and is responsible for
\nsettlement of highly active bacteria cultures thus quickly removes toxic concentration of
\nnitrogen.<\/p>\n

Pond with filtrating system<\/strong><\/h2>\n

BioBooster<\/span> takes care of settlement of highly active bacteria cultures thus quickly removes
\ntoxic concentration of nitrogen from both pond and filters. That helps to create bacterial
\nflora – essential in biological filtration process, reduces activation time of pond filters. At the
\nsame time it is recommended to apply FilterStarterBakterien<\/span> to activate bacterial flora in a
\nfilter. Properly selected microorganisms immediately activate biological cleaning mechanism
\nin pond water.<\/p>\n

Bacteria can only be strained if average water temperature is over 8\u00b0C. Before applying the
\nagent it is necessary to switch of the UVC lamp. Lamp can be again switched on after 48 hrs.<\/p>\n

STEP 4 -PROTECTION AGAINST ALGAE<\/strong><\/h2>\n

Mass growth of algae in water reservoirs is the most common problem. It is very difficult and
\ntime consuming to control its growth. At the moment there are over 100 000 known algae.
\nThe most common are: suspension algae, cyanobacteria, flagellates and filamentous algae.
\nAlgae are not only ugly but may also produce harmful toxic substances being dangerous for
\nfishes. Researches prove that metabolic poisons of cyanobacteria may be dangerous for
\npeople – can lead to various allergies, eczema as far as serious nerves damages. Algae
\nremoval is onerous so it’s much easier to fight with algae at the earliest stage. Anti-algae
\nagents and phosphate bonding agents should be applied. Unfortunately most of available
\nanti-algae agents are only effective on certain kind of algae; they are often harmful for fishes
\nand plants; they only reduce algae but not protect against them. Most of agents are not
\neffective in alkaline water (pH > 8.5\u00b0)<\/p>\n

AlgoSoll\u00ae is the only available agent which is effective on all kinds of algae and additionally
\nprotects reservoir against its growth.<\/p>\n
